About Abbie

Athens is my hometown, and I love living and working in this area with my 2 awesome kids. The mountains of Virginia drew me away for college, but this little town called me back and I enrolled in graduate school at the University of Georgia in the late 90s.

In 2001, I graduated from UGA with a master’s degree in social work and have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW003391*) in the state of Georgia since 2004.

I have over 20 years combined experience in healthcare/oncology and the private practice setting providing counseling and psychotherapy to clients experiencing a variety of emotional and relational concerns. Most of my work is focused on helping people facing depression, anxiety, stress, chronic and terminal illness, caregiver concerns, grief and loss, life transitions/major life decisions, gender/sexuality questions, and family/marital stress. In my practice, I work with individuals (primarily 18 and older), couples, and families and provide compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based counseling and psychotherapy as well as other consultative services.

My therapeutic style is person-centered, accepting, and strengths-focused, and I am feminist and culturally sensitive in my approach. Helping clients move towards a greater sense of peace, self-acceptance, and life balance is very important to me.  I very much enjoy journeying with clients as they learn to embrace who they are with love and compassion, uncover strength, heal wounds, and begin to thrive as they focus on living a life that represents what is important to them.

My work is supported by a blended theoretical orientation that includes mindfulness-based models, such as Acceptance And Commitment Therapy (ACT);  aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Humanistic Therapies; Narrative therapy; Family Systems Theory; Solutions-Focused Models; Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR); and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

In addition, I am available to provide clinical supervision to masters level social workers pursuing clinical licensure, as well as post-licensure professionals in need of ongoing consultation.

It would be a privilege to work with you!
